Fidelia® Increases Automated Capabilities of NetVigil Business Service Monitoring

Enhanced automation of NetVigil Instant Business Visibility™ technology further extends insight into overall business performance

Princeton, NJ – September 8, 2003 – Fidelia® Technology, the leader in Instant Business Visibility™ software, Fidelia® Technology, the leader in Instant Business Visibility™ software, announced new action policies and intelligent alerts that further expand the automated capabilities of its breakthrough NetVigil application.

The new capabilities are a key part of Fidelia's ongoing evolution of NetVigil which is focused on three key differentiators: instant business insight, integrated fault and performance monitoring, and intelligent automation. Combined, these qualities provide business managers - whose profits rely on excellent IT performance - with the intelligence required to make real-time business decisions about their IT operations.

NetVigil's enhanced action framework allows the suppression of transient errors, the elimination of dependent alarms and the application of rules to determine the appropriate action or notification for the generated event. Rules can be set based on the time of day, persistence of the event and time in state before triggering a corresponding action. NetVigil's new "plugin" action functionality allows custom actions, such as re-provisioning IT resources upon performance degradation, to be added, or stopped processes to be restarted automatically. NetVigil's smart baselining feature automatically adjusts warning and critical thresholds so as to set custom thresholds per device based on past behavior patterns.

"Fidelia is making significant strides in the critical areas of proactive alerting and automated problem resolution," said Jasmine Noel, who heads the analyst firm JNoel Associates. "IT organizations are tending to adopt technologies that help them automate the monitoring and management of the IT infrastructure and, by implication, the overall business. This is a critical area of business intelligence for today's progressive IT organizations."

Regional carrier Spirit Airlines is among the Fidelia customers using NetVigil to create action policies that automate recurring actions.

"We have several NetVigil profiles that proactively alert us to problems of different severities with network devices and applications such as our online reservation system," said Dan Piec, director of MIS operations at Spirit Airlines. "These alerts prove themselves on a daily basis. The entire technical staff is alerted to problems that will impact revenue-generating devices, as is the CIO, if necessary. Frequently, the technical staff responds to outages before the user even knows about it."

"Proactive monitoring and high-level revenue impact monitoring enables Spirit Airlines to operate a first class IT department," said Vikas Aggarwal, Fidelia's founder and chief technology officer. "We are focusing our technology development on gathering more business intelligence about the IT infrastructure and increasing the ability of NetVigil to make day-to-day decisions. The progress of Spirit Airlines and others is indicative of that focus."

About Fidelia® NetVigil

NetVigil provides integrated fault and performance monitoring of applications, networks, systems and user defined data sources. This versatile data gathering combination enables customers to rapidly create business containers - personalized views showing the real-time performance of business services derived from the performance of the underlying IT infrastructure.

The object-oriented components of NetVigil's architecture are capable of automatically determining relationships between problems in the infrastructure and business services. With its open, easily extensible APIs and data feeds, NetVigil can monitor any device or application that can be instrumented. Powerful Data Gathering Elements (DGEs), each with its own fault and performance database, automatically discover problems and establish baselines and thresholds for monitored applications, networks, and systems. Business containers can be created on the fly and can represent a geographic location, a business unit, or a revenue-generating service. Containers can share elements with other containers, showing the impact of an IT element on multiple business services in real-time. Earlier this year, Fidelia added a 'nested' container feature to NetVigil (i.e. containers within containers), including the ability to drill down to see the real-time status of nested containers.

NetVigil features an intuitive point-and-click, browser-based user interface that illustrates infrastructure fault and performance with red-amber-green traffic lights. In addition to allowing the creation of containers, NetVigil's capabilities include a sophisticated "delegated user authority," which lets IT managers distribute responsibilities for personal infrastructure slices to other users in the organization. Downloadable over the Web, NetVigil begins discovering the IT infrastructure immediately, returning its value within days.

The NetVigil application is affordably priced for mid-tier enterprises, but scalable for Fortune 500 organizations. Licenses for NetVigil v3.5 start at $40,000, with an average price of approximately $80,000 to $100,000. To date, Fidelia has filed for four patents on the NetVigil intellectual property. NetVigil runs under Solaris, Linux and Windows.
