Fidelia Extends Root Cause Analysis to Business Service Monitoring

NetVigil Business Containers now offer insight into slow performance of Business Services

Princeton, NJ – March 24, 2005– Fidelia® Technology, the leader in Instant Business Visibility™ software, announced the addition of root cause analysis to its Business containers, which helps isolate the cause of poorly performing Business Services in enterprises.

“Traditional root cause has always been focused at the network layer. However, with the increasing role of IT as an enabler of business, it is important to extend this analysis to the Business Service layer, and hence be able to answer questions such as 'why is my payroll service running slow,’" said Vikas Aggarwal, Founder & CTO of Fidelia.

The new business container module extends the existing layer2 and layer3 topology discovery capabilities in NetVigil, and reduces false alerts when a business service fails. Fidelia’s Business Containers, which store the relationships between the different components of a business service, now analyze the underlying relationship between the components of the business service before triggering an alert. In an eCommerce service for example, if a database is performing slowly because of disk load on a server or due to high traffic utilization on an intermediate router, NetVigil will identify the disk or the router traffic as the root cause of the service degradation.

Fidelia’s application discovery engine now supports automated discovery of metrics from Citrix, Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server and Active Directory.

In today’s IT centric business environments, being able to quickly isolate the cause of failure in a business service directly impacts revenues and cost of downtime. Fidelia’s Business container technology is already the most flexible in the industry, and offers nesting of containers, sharing of IT elements with other containers (hence showing the impact of an IT element on multiple business services) and can represent a geographic location, a business unit, a revenue-generating service or any other boundary that helps users isolate the root cause of slow business services.

NetVigil features an intuitive point-and-click, browser-based user interface that is very easy to use and requires minimal training. The product is actively used by technical staff and senior IT managers in very large IT environments because of the business centric display of IT infrastructure. Additionally, NetVigil has a powerful-delegated user security model, which allows multiple departments to use the product for their own IT infrastructure “slice.” Downloadable over the Web, NetVigil can be deployed within hours in very large networks, delivering value instantly to customers.

The NetVigil software is affordably priced for mid-tier enterprises, but scalable for Fortune 500 organizations. Licenses for NetVigil start at $40,000, with an average price of approximately $80,000. NetVigil runs under Solaris, Linux and Windows.
