Alerts & Notifications

Alerts & Notification

Fidelia's policy based notification engine offers features needed most by enterprises to reduce false alarms and escalate priorities as needed. Configuration is easy through the web based user interface, allowing you to configure policy based notifications and actions the instant you install NetVigil. You can:

  • send an alert via email or alphanumeric pager
  • open a trouble ticket
  • send SNMP traps
  • reboot or restart a device or an application
  • add new custom actions

Other features that reduce alarms and highlight the root cause of a problem to reduce overall ROI are described below.

Policy based, Multi-stage Escalation

The multi-stage alarm engine provides policy based escalation capablity to send notifications based on how long a device has been in warning or critical condition. Additionally, you can:

  • configure notifications based on time of day & day of week
  • setup repeat notifications or single
  • delay before notification to avoid notification on spikes

Smart Suppression

The actions and notifications engine determines if the cause of an alarm is an upstream switch or router and identifies such problems automatically. The engine uses complex heuristics to see if there are multiple paths to a downstream subnet to avoid false suppression.Transient flaps are automatically supressed to avoid false alarms so operations can get reliable visual indications.

Coupled with NetVigil's out-of-the-box auto-discovery that discovers layer-2 and layer-3 devices as well as their dependencies across applications as well as networks and servers, the notification engine can determine if the cause of a service or application being unavailable is the network layer itself and suppress such alarms.

Extensible Plugin Framework

The extensible plugin framework allows you to build custom actions with high level of sophistication using the open BVE API to query the state of other devices before triggering an action, etc. You can archive logs when a disk is full during off hours
