Federated Security Model

Federated Security Model

DGENetVigil has a built in federated security model which supports multiple departments, users or customers to use a single copy of the software and treat it like a "Virtual NMS". The flexible model allows you to:

  • create read-only or read-write users
  • create administrative users within a department or a domain who can look at data from multiple domains (e.g. NOC operators)
  • use a single deployment of NetVigil, but prevent each department from looking at another department's data even while monitoring from the same DGE

This unique feature allows the networking department, the server group and the database group to all have their autonomy to monitor their own equipment, but allow a CxO or a NOC group to create business containers from devices in multiple departments.

Example:

An eCommerce service consists of a database managed by the DB group, a router and a server managed by the network and server grops respectively all within the same organization. Each department sets up their own devices and applications for monitoring in NetVigil and cannot see each other's devices being monitored, but when the server is low on memory and causes poor performance of the eCommerce service, the NOC can immediately drill into the eCommerce business container in NetVigil and see that the root cause is the low memory on the server.
