Topology Discovery

Topology Discovery & Mapping

NetVigil automatically discovers applications, networks and servers/systems on initial discovery and the relationship between the different L2/L3 devices using technologies such as CDP, DHCP, arp, icmp & route tables. It can then build the topology map between your network devices such as switches, routers, VLANs, atm/frame-relay and older generation bridges and hubs. These relationships are then used by the notifcation engine to prevent alarm floods when a upstream device fails or flagging such devices as unreachable so as to highlight the main cause of a service outage.

NetVigil is capable of:

  1. Automatically discovering devices and L2/L3 topology
  2. Discover the different components of a device such as interfaces, disks, cpu
  3. Discover the different applications on a server
  4. Create business containers automatically based on simple policies

Topology Aware Business Containers

Rather than just labeling a loose collection of objects as a "business service," Fidelia has gone a giant step further and made their Business Containers fully aware of the underlying L2/L3 relationships between components. In building topological awareness and connectivity dependencies into these business containers, Fidelia provides IT and business managers with a more valuable business services view showing the impact of IT infrastructure to end service delivery.
