Fidelia Helix Release Notes
Version 1.1
Table of Contents
Summary of New Features in v1.1
Release Date: November 2003
Initial version.
Known Bugs/Issues
All Platforms
- If test discovery is performed on a Windows host using both WMI and SNMP,
some SNMP tests may have names same as corresponding WMI tests. While
provisioning the discovered tests, users will need to deselect one of the
duplicate tests
Linux (all distributions)
- Significant changes to the threading architecture has been implemented to
RedHat 9.x, and other distributions based on kernel version 2.4.20 or later.
Under certain conditions, these changes may effect the Java Runtime
Environment in adverse manner, ultimately resulting in performance or
stability problems in Helix components. We are testing possible workarounds.
In the meantime, the recommended Linux version is RedHat 8.0, or other kernel
2.4.18 based distributions
Solaris (sparc architecture)
- Supported versions are Solaris 7 and 8
Windows (2000 and XP)
- No known issues
Client Side Issues
- The SNMP agent provided with Windows NT 4.0 does not implement all
elements of MIB-II and HOST-RESOURCES mibs and you will need to extend the
capabilities of the native agent before CPU, disk, etc objects are discovered
and can be monitored. Additional information on how to extend the agent is
available from the following URLs:
- Windows 2000 includes a native SNMP agent. However, there is a known bug
with Win2K agent where disk space utilization information is not updated
dynamically and refreshed only when the agent is restarted. Installing
service pack 3 should resolve this problem. Additional information is
available from Microsoft's support website at the following URL:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q295/5/87.ASP
- Microsoft SQL Server has a known SNMP bug where it does not respond to
snmp queries. You must use a commercial SNMP agent provided by Fidelia for
monitoring SQL Server. Alternatively SQL server performance can be monitored
using WMI, starting with Helix version 3.6

- Operating system (eg. RedHat Linux 8.0, Sun Solaris 8, Windows 2000 SP3)
- Number of CPU and speed (eg. 2 x 1.3GHz)
- Amount of total memory (eg. 512MB)
- If the problem can be reproduced, what exact steps are required
It is often useful to include copies of logs/helix.error and logs/stderr.log
files (zip/tar+gz preferred) to the message as an attachment
